چکیده

Bovine serum albumin (BSA) adsorption to oil-water interfaces was studied in the presence and absence of two linear polymers poly(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (PDMAEMA) and PDMAEMA-block-[poly butyl acetate]38700-PDMAEMA33000 (PBuA). As the hydrophobicity of the polymers is pH dependent, the pH was varied using pH 6.6, 7.0 and 7.4 during the measurements. Pendant drop and a rheometer with double wall ring geometry were utilized for surface tension and oscillatory shear measurements, respectively. The presence of both the PDMAEME and the PBuA resulted in decreased adsorption of BSA with increasing pH where PBuA was more efficient. The greatest reduction of the interfacial complex viscosity was reached in the presence of PBuA at pH 7.4.

Thermosensitive-polymer-coated magnetic nanoparticles: adsorption and desorption of bovine serum albumin.

Adsorption and desorption behavior of Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) on surface-modified magnetic nanoparticles covered with thermosensitive polymer (PNIPAM) was investigated as a function of temperature, pH, and ionic strength. Functionalization of surface-modified magnetic particles was performed by seed polymerization using N-isopropylacrylamide (PNIPAM) as the main monomer. Characterization of ...

Adsorption of surfactants on minerals for wettability control in improved oil recovery processes

Chemical-flooding schemes for recovering residual oil have been in general less than satisfactory due to loss of chemicals by adsorption on reservoir rocks, precipitation, and resultant changes in rock wettability. Adsorption and wettability changes are determined mainly by the chemical structure and mix of the surfactants, surface properties of the rock, composition of the oil and reservoir fl...

Mechanisms of competitive adsorption of albumin and sodium myristate at the silicon oxide/aqueous interface.

The competitive adsorption of proteins and surfactants has applications to chromatographic systems and biological materials. Adsorption for systems of bovine serum albumin (BSA) and sodium myristate (SM) was investigated with in-situ ATR-IR spectroscopy and ex-situ ellipsometry. The results were used to determine quantitatively the surface densities of the adsorbates at the surface. For a mixtu...

Simulation of Oil Droplets Through Porous Media Using Dissipative Particle D

In oil industry, recovery of crude oil can be improved by injecting aqueous solutions containing surfactants, polymers, and mineral ions into an oil reservoir. This process is called enhanced oil recovery. Water and oil are immiscible, separated by an interface, and their motion through a capillary tube is governed by the surface tension. However, the physics can be more complex during an enhan...
